Spider silk is breaking waves this year in so many ways. However, spiders aren't always involved in the matter. Currently a defense company is combining spider silk with silk worms to weave defensive clothing for the military. Another lab is growing spider silk using special proteins, which will make the reproduction of the silk efficient and fast. The fashion industry has even jumped into the mix. Apart from making safer clothes, spider silk will also play a role in conservation as the new clothes will last longer and will be biodegradable.
